The Kenya Forest Service concluded a week-long Plantation Management Plans Review (PMPR) workshop, held from 28 September to 1 October at the Mau Regional Forest Conservator’s Office, Nakuru.
The workshop brought together technical teams from Survey, Inventory and Plantation and Management to strengthen coordination and enhance a practical, data-driven approach to the development of Plantation Management Plans.
Speaking on behalf of the Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF), Regional Forest Conservator Mr. Dennis Kerengo commended the team for its commitment and encouraged the domestication and multiplication of medicinal tree species, increased use of online platforms for field coordination, establishment of official communication groups, and greater use of technology to expose officers to practical field experiences. He also called for measures to make the plan development process more cost-effective.
The review covered forest status, biophysical and socio-economic conditions, plantation health, infrastructure, management history, SWOT analysis, management objectives and technical prescriptions.
The process also incorporated data analysis, illustrations and interpretation to support the development of practical plans that will guide sustainable timber production, biodiversity conservation, socio-economic benefits and effective plantation management.
