The Forester Magazine

Kenya’s forest sector is undergoing a remarkable transformation driven by bold tree growing initiatives, strategic partnerships, and targeted interventions that are redefining conservation across the country.
At the forefront of this national momentum is H.E Dr. William Ruto, E.G.H, president of the Republic of Kenya whose leadership has amplified the urgency of forest conservation.
By championing nationwide tree growing efforts and institutionalizing environmental stewardship, the President has elevated forest restoration to a central pillar of Kenya’s development agenda. The gazettement of Mazingira Day as a public holiday marked a significant milestone transforming the day into a unifying platform for climate action.
Across the country, flagship landscapes continue to anchor this restoration journey. The Kaptagat Forest Ecosystem stands out as a model for integrated conservation. Its continued prominence was reaffirmed during the ninth edition of the Kaptagat Integrated Conservation Programme, led by the President, underscoring its role as a benchmark for collaborative, landscape-level restoration. Equally significant is the growing recognition of other critical ecosystems.
The inauguration of Mt Elgon Day signals a renewed commitment to protecting the Mount Elgon landscape. Observed annually on 7th November, the day is dedicated to raising awareness and mobilizing long-term support for conservation ensuring that this vital ecosystem continues to sustain biodiversity and local communities alike.
As you turn the pages of this edition, we invite you to engage with stories that inspire action and deepen your connection to Kenya’s green heritage.
