Kenya’s forest sector has undergone significant changes in the first half of 2025. From fighting wildfires to releasing a thorough forest status report, the Kenya Forest Service has stayed constant in its mission to protect, repair, and expand our forest ecosystems. This issue of Forester Magazine captures that journey, not only the milestones, but also the momentum. We take pride in the operationalization of the Forest Fire Management Project, equipping and training officers with tools and knowledge to respond to one of our greatest threats: fire. At the same time, strategic fencing initiatives, from Ngong Road Sanctuary to Siongiroi, Mukutani, and Menengai, are reinforcing our forests’ physical boundaries, ensuring they are not only protected, but more accessible, enjoyable, and secure for the communities that surround them. The launch of the National Forest Status Report stands as a major policy achievement, anchoring our future action in evidence, science, and accountability. This synthesis of forest cover, governance, climate contributions, and economic value is both a mirror and a map, showing us where we stand, and where we must go. We were equally honored to welcome global dignitaries to our forests, a reminder that Kenya’s forest sector is not only of national significance, but of global relevance. As you flip through these pages, we hope you find stories of purpose, partnership, and progress, and inspiration to continue playing your part in protecting Kenya’s green heritage.
