The Kenya Forest Service (KFS), through the National Tree Growing and Restoration Programme (NTGRP), continued the handover of designated sites in Mandera and Wajir counties. The exercise, led by the DCCF Partnerships and Resource Mobilization and Manager NTGRP, Mr. Noor Hussein, paves the way for borehole drilling, installation of solar-powered water pumps and steel water tanks to improve water availability for tree growing and forest restoration initiatives.
During the exercise, the team visited the designated project sites in Mandera and Wajir counties to facilitate the handover for borehole drilling, installation of solar-powered water pumps and construction of steel water tanks. In Mandera County, the team was received by the County Forest Conservator, Mr. Mohammed Hussein, while in Wajir County, the delegation was hosted by the County Forest Conservator, Ms. Fordosa Hassan. The site handovers mark an important step towards the implementation of the projects and the establishment of reliable water infrastructure to support tree nurseries and restoration activities.
The borehole projects are expected to enhance seedling production by providing a reliable water supply to forest nurseries, supporting Kenya’s 15 Billion Trees Campaign and the national target of achieving 30% tree cover by 2032. The installation of solar-powered water pumps and steel water tanks will promote sustainable water supply, while also improving access to water for neighbouring communities and strengthening local livelihoods. The site handover exercise was attended by the Chief Administrative Officer, Ms. Judy Wata, and other members of the NTGRP implementation committee.
