Kenya Forest Service launched Participatory Forest Management Plans and signed Forest Management Agreements with Kitale Township Community Forest Associations. The ceremony held at the KFS County Office Ground, in Tranzoia County was officiated by Anthony Musyoka , Regional Forest Consevator for North Rift, representing the Chief Conservator of Forests.
PFMP’s put communities adjacent to forest resources at the center of management of forest, it also stipulates user rights these communities are entitled to.
During the ceremony, Mr.Musyoka the important role Community Forest Associations play in ensuring forest protection and development. He urged the CFA to maximize on the benefits that will come along with the Forest Management Agreement signed. He also called on them to support in the 15 billion tree growing agenda by ensuring they grow trees.
Kitale Forest has a great ecotourism potential because of its proximity to Kitale town and two major national parks, Mr. Musyoka reiterated calling on the CFA, to explore such opportunities through partnerships.
The Kitale Township CFA, Chairperson Pradip Shah on his part expressed gratitude to all stakeholders who helped in the realization of FMA and PFMP. He called on his CFA members to get down to work and ensure full implementation of the plan.
