Kenya Forest Service held an awareness workshop on disposal of forest plantation materials in Kericho and Baringo counties. The workshop held at the Kenya Forestry College in Londiani was conducted together with the Forest industry investors as is required by law for public participation.
The workshop served to educate the investors on the importance of adhering to the Public Procurement and Assest Disposal Act, 2015 among other regulations attached to disposal of forest resources.
The investors during the workshop, decried the state of plantation forests noting that matured and over matured trees were decomposing leading to losses to both the Service and the communities.
The Plantation forests establishment is entrenched in the Forest Conservation and Management Act(2016) that provides for plantation forests in a public forest be managed in a sustainable manner for the production of wood and other forest products and services for commercial purposes.
During the workshop, the investors were urged to continue taking part in tree growing activities in support of the government’s 15 billion trees agenda.
The workshop was attended by officials from the Ministry of Environment Climate Change and Forestry, Kenya Forestry Service and other multi agency partners.
