KENYA AIRWAYS SEEKS PARTNERSHIP IN CARBON OFFSET PROJECT

The Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF) Mr. Alex Lemarkoko hosted officers from Kenya Airways in his office who are on a mission to collaborate with the Kenya Forest Service in their carbon offsetting project that will see them grow over 50 million trees in the next ten years.
The CCF noted that the aviation industry was one of the biggest contributors of carbon emissions and it was therefore encouraging that the national carrier was playing its part in mitigating the effects of climate change through tree growing. Kenya Airways is one of the Service’s forest conservation partners who have been instrumental in the restoration of Ngong’ Hills Forest in Kajiado County.
He thanked them for their initiative that seeks to eventually give them a carbon zero status through environmental conservation activities. The officers who included Mr. Haig Anyonyi, Ms. Wakina Mutembei and Mr. Isaac Mwangi informed the CCF that KQ was the first African airline to use sustainable aviation fuel and that they were working on reducing the use of fossil fuels in their ground operations.
Also present during the morning meeting were Mr. Julius Ekuwam, Mr. Ambrose Genga and Ms. Ruth Kerubo from KFS.
