The Chief Conservator of Forests, Alex Lemarkoko, officially flagged off four heavy-duty motor vehicles at the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) Headquarters. These vehicles, procured through the Green Zones Development Support Project Phase II, mark a significant boost to KFS’s operational capabilities.
Addressing those gathered, the Chief Conservator of Forests reminded everyone of the importance of diligence in their work as the Service strives to achieve the target of 30% tree cover by 2032. He emphasized the need to maximize the use of the resources provided to ensure the success of their conservation efforts.
During the ceremony, Project Manager Jerome Mwanzia highlighted the project’s significant contributions to date. Previously, the project has provided 45 motorbikes, 15 tractors, 26 double cabs, 26 single cabs, 4 trucks, 8 Land Cruisers, and 2 buses. These vehicles have been strategically distributed to the 15 counties where the project operates.
The newly procured heavy-duty motor vehicles are set to substantially enhance the operations of the Kenya Forest Service. They will improve mobility and patrol capabilities, allowing KFS personnel to cover larger areas more efficiently and respond to incidents more swiftly. This increased efficiency is crucial for effective forest management, monitoring, and conservation activities.
