Kenya Forest Service Kinale hosted a delegation from African Development Bank(AfDB) and the National Treasury for a tree planting event at Kinale Forest Station, Kiambu County.
The AfDB team, led by their First Lady Grace Adasina and Nancy Ndungu, planted 60 ceremonial trees each representing an African state and partner states as part of an appreciation of Kenya’s efforts in environmental conservation.
The Greenzones Development Support Project Phase II, a project sponsored by AfDB and the Government of Kenya, showcased some of its activities in the 15 counties where it operates. These activities included initiatives by the Shalom Self Help Group and the Uplands Mushroom Growers, demonstrating how forest-adjacent communities can benefit from non-extractive uses of the forest.
The event was attended by Francis Kariuki, the GZDSP Project Manager, Jerome Mwanzia, the Regional Forest Conservator for Central Highlands, Thomas Kiptoo from the GZDSP II project implementation unit, and other officials from the Kenya Forest Service.
