Mangrove Ecosystems and Wetlands are vital ecosystems that support biodiversity, clean water, and climate resilience. The Service received a major boost towards implementing its mandate of protecting and reserving these crucial ecosystems for achievement of #SDG15 & sustainable future.
This follows donation of forest alert systems equipment from Wetlands International (WI) received by KFS, Commandant, Mr. Mohamed Adan and other KFS officials from East Africa Regional Director, Julie Mulonga. These included smartphones, solar powered power banks, wireless modems, desktops, a printer, and UPS.
Wetlands International have committed to establish and equip alert command center in Lamu, collaborate with KFS on alerts across the five coastal counties, & the national level, support the Service with research, monitoring, and evaluation of its work and progress and upscaling dissemination of training and materials to multiple stakeholders.
