The Forester Magazine
The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) ushered in the New Year with a Thanksgiving Breakfast Meeting, bringing staff together in a spirit of gratitude, unity and renewed commitment to the Service’s mandate. The gathering provided an opportunity to reflect on achievements and reaffirm the shared responsibility of safeguarding Kenya’s forest resources.
KFS continues to modernize its nursery network through the development of high-capacity mega and model nurseries across the country. The Kinale Modern Tree Nursery is a notable example of these efforts, demonstrating the Service’s commitment to increasing the availability and quality of tree seedlings to support Kenya’s ambitious restoration agenda.
The International Day of Forests was marked with a strong call to recognize forests as engines of economic growth, environmental sustainability and community livelihoods. The celebrations underscored the importance of collective action in protecting and sustainably managing Kenya’s forests.
The year also recorded significant milestones, including the official inauguration of the Forest Law Enforcement Academy main campus at Mukutani, Baringo County. The institution will strengthen the capacity and professionalism of forest law enforcement personnel and contribute to enhanced protection of forest resources.
The launch of the CHERISH Project further strengthened restoration efforts in the Cheranganyi Hills, one of Kenya’s gazetted water towers, seeking to restore the landscape while promoting sustainable land management and strengthening ecosystem and community resilience.
In this edition, we invite you to explore stories that capture forest transformation, celebrate the people and partnerships driving change, and inspire greater action to protect Kenya’s rich green heritage.
