The Chief Conservator of Forests Alex Lemarkoko today hosted the Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Hon. Soipan Tuya and her Cabinet colleague for Tourism and Wildlife Dr. Alfred Mutua for a tree growing exercise at Mumoni Hills Forest Station, Mwingi North, Kitui County.
Over 13,000 indigenous tree seedlings were planted and 8,000 seedlings donated to the community in the ongoing intensified tree growing drive to take advantage of the enhanced rainfall to grow as many trees as possible. This is also part of the whole government whole society approach where each ministry is expected to spearhead a tree growing activity as part of the 15 billion tree growing programme.
The Cabinet Secretaries were joined at the tree planting exercise by Prinicipal Secretaries Gitonga Mugambi(Forestry), John Ololooltua(Tourism), and Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) DG Dr. Erustus Kanga.
