Kenya Forestry College trains technical foresters at diploma and certificate levels, and also trains forest rangers from the service and other Natural Resource Mannagement to other forest protection agencies such as county councils. We also offers short term training to communities and civic organizations involved in natural resource and environmental conservation on various aspects of forestry practise. Many of the courses are organized in Collaboration with other institutions such as Moi university School of Natural resources Management, and the Kenya Forestry Research Institute.

 

Graduates of the college have found job opportunities in the private and civic society sectors, and the public service. Our Diploma programme is tailored to facilitate further training at degree level. There is also strong interest in college programmes in the region, and we currently have students from Southern Sudan and Rwanda.

 

From January 2010, the College will offer IT training at Diploma and certificate levels for the youth from sorrounding communities. The college is also offering training for community forest scouts to enable them play an effective role in forest protection through participatory forest management as envisaged under the Forest Act 2005.

 

The college recently acquired a modern saw mill and will offer training in wood utilization, including sawmilling, saw doctoring, and carpentry and joinery. This is with the aim of preparing human resource capital for revatilizationof the wood industry sector. In August 2010, the college will launch an ultra modern convention centre, to enhance the effectiveness of the continuing education programmes, and to support workshop, seminars and training activities of public and civic agencies in the south Rift.

 

We are currently reviewing our curricula to make our programmes responsive to market needs and promote high standards of forestry practise. The new curriculum aims to produce innovative graduates who can succesfully meet emerging forestry and environment related challenges.
