KFS Partners with the Presidential Escort Unit to green the environment.

By Michael Muratha

As one of the strategies to achieve the constitutional requirement of 10% forest cover by 2030, Kenya Forest Service has embraced partnerships. The Service is partnering with government institutions, the private sector and communities to conserve the environment by planting and nurturing trees countrywide. The move has contributed majorly to increasing the forest cover which now stands at 6.99%. The latest partnership that the Service has engaged in is with the Presidential Escort Unit.

The partnership was launched by the Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Prof. Judi Wakhungu in the new Presidential Escort camp Unit in Ruiru recently. The event was also graced by other dignitaries including KFS Director Emilio Mugo, Deputy Commander Presidential Escort Unit Omar Bashane among other senior government officials.

In his Remarks KFS Director Emilio Mugo noted that the Service was indeed delighted to partner with the Presidential Escort Unit. He further added that KFS would continue to work with the Unit on greening the environment. In his concluding remarks he noted that KFS was committed to achieving the 10% tree cover in the near future.

Also speaking during the event, Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Prof. Judi Wakhungu lauded the Presidential Escort Unit for embracing tree growing. She further congratulated the Service for the great efforts in forest conservation and management across the country. 1250 trees were planted during the exercise.
