    First Lady Margaret Kenyatta officially inaugurated Karura Forest Environment Education Centre (KFEEC) auditorium on June 2, 2013, in Karura forest in a bid to enhance environmental conservation. The auditorium which sits on 15 acres of land will be instrumental in promoting environmental conservation and sustainable management of natural resources through sharing of information and related resources and through strengthening of private-public partnerships.

    Speaking during the event, First lady lauded the work of the late Wangari Maathai, she noted that her work in effortlessly fighting for the conservation of our environment left an indelible mark that will always be admired and as such inspire the young generation to be in touch with our environment.

    In attendance were dignitaries among them Prof. Judy Wakhungu Cabinet Secretary Water Environment and Natural Resources, Francis Okello Chairman of Barclays Bank, Alice Macaire patron Friends of Karura, Prof Karanja Njoroge Chairman FKF, KFS Board Chairman Peter Kirigua and KFS Director David K. Mbugua among other invited guests.

    KFS Director Mr. David K. Mbugua expressed his gratitude to individuals and Corporates who have played a central role through their cooperation and support thus elevating the forest cover to an incredible 6.69%.
    KFS Board Chairman in his speech noted that KFS is keen on collaborating with the community, something that has enabled the Service enhance its conservation efforts as stipulated in the Constitution, he was also keen to stress the importance of engaging the school children to be future tree ambassadors.
