KITUI ASK SHOW

Kenya Forest Service Ecosystem Conservator Office Kitui participated in its first Agricultural Show and Trade Fair on the 21st -23rd July 2016 at Ithookwe Show Ground in Kitui. The theme of the event was dubbed Enhancing Technology in Agriculture and Industry for Food Security and Sustainable Growth.

The event was officially opened by the Governor of Kitui Dr. Julius Malombe. In his opening speech the Governor thanked everyone for turning out in large numbers to participate in the event he further encouraged farmers to embrace technology in farming to improve farm yields. He also encouraged the residents to grow drought resistant crops for examples green grams, cowpeas and sorghum among others that are guaranteed to yield produce for sustainable livelihood.

 

Kenya Forest Service advocates for the planting and conservation of trees and thus got a chance to exhibit different tree seedlings while giving technical advice to the guests more so students who visited KFS stand. The service also got a chance to advice the public on the different tree species that may do fairly well in the dry areas such as Kitui.  

 

The event was well attended with an array of group of people. Students from different institutions that is Primary, Secondary and University were well represented at the Ithookwe show ground. Various exhibitors from ministries, parastatals and private companies showcased their products and services that were all in line with the theme of the event. The Agricultural Show and Trade Fair provides an opportunity to meet people from different counties hence creating a platform for interaction and exchanging of ideas and experiences.
