In celebrating the 51st annual Earth Day, Kenya Forest Service (KFS) partnered with Green Belt Movement (GBM), NCBA bank, Royal Media Services (RMS), World Wide Fund (WWF), Junior Achievers Kenya, Rotary Club of Kenya & the Ngong Hills CFA by planting 1500 assorted indigenous tree seedlings at Ngong Hills Forest Station, Kibiku Forest Block.

The exercise was led by the Ecosystem Conservator(EC) Kajiado County Mr. David Mwanzia and GBM Executive Director, Ms. Nyaguthii Chege.

The exercise represented a nexus between “Restore Kibiku Initiative” and “Change the Story Initiative” led by NCBA Bank aimed at restoring the natural state of Kibiku Forest Block and a clear mark of this year’s theme in ‘Restoring the Earth.”

On the same day,KFS and the Friends of Karura (FKF) planted 400 mixed indigenous tree seedlings at Sigiria Block of Karura Forest.

Keeping up with this year’s theme, “Restore the Earth”, the reforestation exercise was aimed at rehabilitating the area which has been destroyed by invasive species leading to ruination of the surrounding ecosystem.

The exercise was led by Ecosystem Conservator Nairobi County, Margaret Wanjiru & FKF Board Member Angelica Kamuyu alongside staff members from both KFS and FKF.
